Around the World by Sea

World Cruise Military Discount for Veterans & Families

A world cruise is months at sea, dozens of countries and one unpacking. Here is how these voyages work, which lines run them and how to save as a military family.

Quick Answer

Military Cruise Deals offers a world cruise military discount of at least 5% off the cruise fare on world voyages and grand voyages from lines such as Regent Seven Seas, Silversea, Seabourn, Oceania, Crystal and Viking, stacked on top of the cruise line's own promotions. Because world cruise fares are large, that percentage adds up to meaningful savings. Active duty, retirees, all veterans, their spouses and companions traveling with them qualify.

What Is a World Cruise?

A world cruise is a single voyage that crosses multiple oceans and visits several continents, usually departing in early January and lasting three to six months. Some circle the globe completely, returning to the port where they began. Others follow a grand loop through one region, such as the Pacific, South America or Asia, and are marketed as grand voyages.

Days at sea are part of the appeal. Ships fill them with guest lecturers, cooking classes, language lessons and themed events, and a real community forms among guests who sail the whole way. Many world cruisers return year after year to the same ship.

Which Luxury Lines Sail World Cruises

Nearly every luxury line schedules at least one world voyage or grand voyage each year. Each brings a different style to months at sea.

  • Regent Seven Seas: very inclusive fares covering shore excursions, drinks, gratuities and, on many fares, air.
  • Silversea: world cruises often include business-class air from select gateways, a pre-cruise hotel, laundry and Wi-Fi.
  • Seabourn: intimate all-suite ships with drinks and gratuities included.
  • Crystal: a long tradition of world cruises with a loyal repeat following.
  • Oceania Cruises: food-focused ships and some of the longest around-the-world itineraries at sea, with generous packages on world voyages.
  • Viking: adult-only ships on world itineraries lasting several months, with a shore excursion in most ports.

World Cruise Segments and Grand Voyages

Not everyone can be away for four or five months. Most world cruises are sold in segments, letting you sail a portion of the route, perhaps the South Pacific or the passage from Asia to the Mediterranean, for a few weeks. Segments price per night much like a regular cruise, though full world cruise guests often receive extra perks that segment guests do not.

Premium lines such as Holland America, Princess, Cunard and MSC also run world cruises at lower price points. They make a good option for travelers who want the experience and the long sea days without luxury-level inclusions.

Planning a Luxury World Cruise

Preparation matters more on a world cruise than on any other sailing. A few planning points we walk every client through:

  • Book early. Itineraries are released years in advance, and the best suites go first.
  • Check visas. Some countries require visas arranged before you sail; many lines offer help or a visa package.
  • Plan medications and care. Bring enough prescriptions for the whole voyage and talk with your doctor and insurer before departure.
  • Compare total value. Included air, hotels, excursions and onboard credit can vary widely between lines.
  • Consider travel insurance. With large deposits on the line, coverage matters.

How Our World Cruise Military Discount Works

We take at least 5% off the cruise line's lowest available fare, after its current promotions are applied. On select sailings we can add onboard credit or other amenities through our travel consortia. The discount covers the cruise fare only, not taxes, port fees or air.

We charge no fees, and all payments go directly to the cruise line. We monitor your fare from booking until final payment and ask the line to re-fare you if the price drops, though some non-refundable fares cannot be changed. If you already reserved directly with the line, we can usually take over the booking before final payment with the same cabin and booking number.
